Application Development, Maintenance & Change

Build, run, and safely change the applications a business depends on — with ITIL service management and DevOps delivery working as one process rather than two.

Talk to us about this ↗

What this covers

Most applications spend far longer being maintained and changed than they do being built, and that is where delivery usually slows down. We cover the whole span: developing new functionality, supporting what is already live, and handling the change, incident, and release process around it. The service management side follows ITIL practice — changes are assessed, approved, and scheduled with a defined rollback; incidents are triaged against agreed severities; problems get a root cause rather than a repeated workaround. The delivery side runs on DevOps practice, so a change that has been approved is built, tested, and released through an automated pipeline rather than a manual handoff. The point of running both together is that neither one becomes the bottleneck: governance stays auditable without turning every small change into a committee, and automation stays fast without bypassing the controls the business actually needs.

Why it matters

Separating "the team that builds it" from "the team that changes it" is where most of an application's lifetime cost appears — in handoffs, lost context, and changes nobody wants to approve because nobody is sure what will break. Running development, maintenance, and change management as one process keeps that context in one place. It also makes the trade-off visible rather than accidental: a change calendar and an automated pipeline can coexist, but only if someone has decided which changes need which level of scrutiny.

What's included

Capabilities

01

Application development & enhancement

Build new functionality against the existing codebase, with the same review, testing, and release path as any other change.

02

Application maintenance & support

Second and third line support for live applications, including bug fixes, patching, and the small changes that keep a system usable.

03

ITIL change & release management

Assess, approve, schedule, and release changes with documented risk, back-out plans, and a change record that holds up to audit.

04

Incident & problem management

Triage incidents against agreed severities and response times, then take recurring ones through root cause to a permanent fix.

05

DevOps delivery practice

CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code so an approved change reaches production without manual assembly.

06

Service levels & reporting

Agree what the service commits to, measure against it, and report in terms the business and the delivery team both recognise.
